When the hail storm was over, I retrieved some of these beauties from our yard. It only lasted a few minutes but this is what we got. In my 51 years, I do not think I have ever seen hail this big or the shape that it was.
I then wanted to know what is Hail? Of course it is frozen precipitation but what? Research revealed the following:
"Hail is a frozen form of precipitation generally associated with severe thunderstorms, especially those which form in advance of cold fronts. Large hail is also seen as an early indicator of an approaching tornadic storm cell, and hailstones themselves can cause significant damage to exposed structures and vehicles. There are also documented cases where people have been seriously injured or even killed as a result of a heavy hailstorm."
The size of the hail was a true indicator of tornado's in the area. And yes I do believe that this size hail could have easily killed someone. True also was that a cold front hit a warm front causing the bad weather. The tornado sirens continued to go off for some time and we had a lot of rain. Thankfully everyone I know and love was safe and sound.
What was your weather like yesterday?
Have a good one!

Great pictures! Hail hit our house pretty bad last night but we haven't done a thorough search for damage yet. Unfortunately, I sent Jason outside to take pictures with a dead camera battery. By the time we were all charged up, it was dark out. Glad your family made it through okay!
WOW! I hope you were all safe. I would have put the sucker in the freezer and saved it.
That's so beautiful! I wonder what makes it form in that shape. I've never seen anything like it.
I am so glad everyone was okay after that. Those were some serious storms....and that hail is eerily pretty.
I cannot believe how big your hail stones are!
Hey, George got Dixie's gift in the mail. He thinks they are AWESOME!!
www.marleelouise.blogspot.com check out my new blog and if you dont mind putting a post about it I would greatly apreciate it!
wow Chere. Those are amazing hail stones. Incredible actually. We didn't get much rain or wind with that particular storm. It just missed us by about 3 miles. A friend in Oklahoma had her house nearly destroyed by tornados two weeks ago. The house two houses down from them is unihabitable.
