Brushes

After attending a digital class, taught by the best Diva, I am hooked on brushes. Mainly brushes because I know how to download and them use them. I can download anything but using it is another matter.
I have longed to venture into the digital scrap booking world. I will always have to cut and paste, touch and feel. But beginning able to take my lap top and create anywhere is a wonderful experience.
So all of that said. Enjoy the pictures with two digital frames and a brush to ink edges. This is so cool and a lot of fun .

Through My Garden Gate

Some years my backyard is just okay but sometimes it is some what unbelieveable. It seems that God has graced me with that latter this year. When I take my girls out in the morning, I just stop and stare. Often they are waiting for me to go back in.

My breded iris have been so beautiful. I have tried to grow these for many years. It was not until we took out some crepe myrtles that they really took off. I have one lilly that is called a lemon lilly. I do not know the latin name. My Granny gave it to me and said it came from the old Meriweather home place in Coweta county. It truly smells like lemons. My lambs ear is blooming with it's little purple flowers. Lambs ear is very special plant to me because it reminds me of a cocker spaniel's ear. It has that soft feel to it that I love. You can not beat the combination of my red knock out roses and the lime green spirea. They just go together. The little red knock out roses are such a hardy flower. They bloom from the first breath of spring until the cold, cold weather of winter.

I am very happy with my little backyard. Click: http://www.flickr.com/photos/missprissfollies/sets/72157618283667614/show/, to step through my garden gate.

Girls Got To Get Away

I a so lucky to have a huge family. God has blessed me with two families who I love very much. My Mother gave me a wonderful step-father, a brother and two sisters. My Dad gave me a beautiful step-mother and three brothers. Could I have been any luckier?

Now you have some history, let me introduce the girls that I love to travel with. Back row l-r,

Linda is my cousin by choice. She is so much fun and keeps us laughing. The question is what will she come up with next? Linda is also our medical provider and keeps us all healthy on our trips. She now carries super glue for replacing caps. Will not travel without you Linda Leigh!

Karen is my first cousin. Our fathers are twins. Being 8 or 9 years older, oh the memories I have of Karen. The best description is "She's a pistol". Karen is the quite comedian of the group. She loves to silently pester people, but she has such a light up smile. You just laugh with her. Right Linda?

Of course there is Me. What can I say? I like to think that I am fun, kind, good-looking and all of the above. The thing I enjoy the most is the time I have with these people on our trips. I am very selfish. Do not intrude on our time together. We do not get to spend a lot of time together. When we are away it is just us.

Bottom Row L-R

My Aunt Joyce is someone that I could strive to be more like. She has such a loving heart. Joyce is our care giver on our girl trips. All of my life, I can not remember her without a smile. She is just a kind and caring soul. I love spending time with her. Out of the whole huge family that I have, Joyce is my only aunt. Love you Aunt Joyce!

Last but certainly not least is my Step-Mother Betty. She is such a beautiful women inside and out. It took me a long time to truly love her with all of my heart. Blended families can be hard but today we have a warm and caring relationship. I love to see the way my Father loves her. I long to have her strength and courage. Betty faces life's challenges daily through God's love. She is an example to the women in our family. Love you girl.

Can you see why I love these women so much? We love to be together. We can laugh together, cry together, argue together and learn from each other. To me this is the definition of family.

Yes, There Is An Easter Bunny!!!!

Yes friends there is an Easter Bunny. My honey and I spent Easter week-end at our home in Florida. We live on a great street with a lot of friends. I just love it here. On Easter morning, I went out onto the porch with a cup of coffee in hand to enjoy the morning. God was truly glorious this morning. The sky was a brilliant blue with puffy white clouds. There was a cool, gentle breeze and life was truly good. I decided to walk down to the dock and to my surprise in the flower boxes the Easter Bunny had left two Easter eggs. Both eggs contained a shinny new penny for good luck. This 51 year old women was excited as a little kid. Thank you Easter Bunny, (Peggy,Tommy,Sara Beth,Andy and Sarah). You bunnies made my day.

Let me know if a sweet little bunny visited you. Happy Monday to all, have a good one.

Cruzin' Cousins

Hello fellow blog friends. My blog has been silent for sometime . I have not had a lot to say. For those of you who know me, you will find that hard to believe. So a warm hello to those who may read.

I have just returned from a 7 day Caribbean cruise with my StepMother, Aunt and two cousins. We had a blast. What a shock to come home from 80-85 degree weather to snow and the 30's. Burrrrrrrr My cousins and I try to plan a girl trip about every six months. This is four to seven days of togetherness, fun, laughter and family time. We are all busy and rarely get to see each other out side of our trips. My beautiful Stepmother is fighting for her life in her battle of breast cancer. I pray each day that God will be with her and help her through. My aunt is the glue that holds us together. She is the Mama of the group and what would we do without her.

Any way click here to enjoy all the fun, CARIBBEAN .

Just call me Orlando, the famous fisherman. I do think he was a fresh water fisher. My little love Dixie and I are in Fla. again. Work continues on our house with four contractor's scheduled to work tomorrow. But, my love here is the sun, water and any type of water sport. This was last week-end with my honey and I. He is not very patentice and has a hard time sitting still to fish. The weather was nice and it was a great day on the water.

Enjoy your week.

Love Bird

My husband has nick names for everyone. Love ones, friends, employees, everyone he knows has a nick name. Even our 4-legged babies. My name has always been "Love Bird". Sometimes it has been shorten to "Bird" or "Bird is the Word". Any combination of Love Bird is it.

I have been at our home in Fla. since Monday and my honey is in Atlanta. He hates to be alone. We talk many times a day. Where are you? What are you doing? Have you done this? Have you seen this person? What does the house look like? Etc. Etc. Etc. ???
This morning while looking and reading my e-mails, I came across this message from my Honey. "

"(no subject)
From:Fred Mortensen
To:chrcsmrtnsn@aol.com'
Date: Wed, 4 Mar 2009 9:29 pm

IS THERE A LOVE BIRD OUT THERE? ANYWHERE, I LOST ONE………

What more can I say. Love you Honey. Have a great day.

Warm and Fuzzy

I have passed this sign many times as I,we have driven to Florida. It sneaks up on me when driving alone. Of course I always see it when drivings down with my Honey. He would think I was crazy if I asked him to stop. Honey would stop but still think I was crazy.

Well after the weird snow/thunder weather we had two days ago, I was off for another drive to the sunshine state. This time I was ready. My trusty Canon 40D made the trip on the seat beside me. As I knew I was getting close I was on the look out. There it was up ahead and my car made it's way to the side of the road.

Doesn't it just make you feel warm and fuzzy inside? It is cold here in the sunshine state but the sign did the trick for me.

A Kiss Good Morning

Please let me clear up one thing before I continue this post. My husband does sleep where Dixie is sleeping in the photo below. And no, we do not sleep with three dogs.
We do however sleep with two. Dixie the little cocker and Bella the little chihuahua. But when honey gets up in the morning all bets are off. Katie our lab crawls up on the bed and snuggles up close to me. She loves to put her head on my pillow. Normally I will tell them that it is not 8:00 and go back to sleep. The photo above show us sleeping.
You can see that Dixie has spotted the chewie on the table. It does not bother her that she is laying on my head. Katie can not be out done and needs to have a good look. Bella has to be the center of attention and get in between Katie and me. Once again I say "Go back to sleep, it is not 8:00 yet."
The alarm clock goes off and Katie gives me a big kiss. Time to get up Mom. What a great way to wake up in the morning. Honey is loving taking all the photos. And our day begins.

Wish Upon A Star

Marlee has always been a little star. She was born 4 weeks early, weighing 4lbs. 7 ozs and 18 inches long. My little princess was like a baby doll, her Mother was terrified. I asked myself what had I done? She moved and I jumped. We learned and grew together. Smart, beautiful,
loving, caring with a heart of gold. For the first 17 years of Marlee's life she was a dream. But some where along the path she lost her way. We thought she was young, immature. She would grow up. From the age of 18 to 26 Marlee was on a road of destruction. It was a slow road. We did not see it over night.
It slowly built into a nightmare. Her Dad and I did not know if she would live or die. As a parent we were scared. I am so thankful that my dear Honey makes the money to get our princess the best help. For the last 5 months there have been a lot of struggles, a lot of tears, angry words spoken, separation, fear, sadness, lost but learning and healing. Our whole family has grown through all of this.
As you can see through all the pictures, our old Marlee is back. There is a star in her eye. Stars have always been Marlee's favorite symbol. For once in her adult life Marlee is happy. She is still struggling with issues. Some of these things will be with her for the rest of her life. At the beginning of all of this I told her "This is truly the first day of the rest of your life." Our star is living one second, one minute, one day at a time. Each day is an accomplishment.
Hang in there baby. Keep the people who are there to help you close. Set tiny goals and pat yourself on the back when you make them. It is such a great comfort to know that you are okay and happy. I love the song below and thought of it when I thought of our star today.
Congratulations!!!!
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true

An item that I have always wanted is a Macro len. After attending CPR Conn. in October, I was really fired up to purchase one. Canon offered a class on macro's and how to use them. We were allowed to test shoot the 60, 100 and the 150 mm len. They also had all the different flashes that can be used with this len. I am a Canon user and have been for the last 25 years. In high school and in young adulthood I used a Pentax with numerous len. When Canon was on site with their product, I was in heaven.
On returning home, I spent time shopping on the inter-net for the best price for Canon's 100mm Macro lens. I had recently won money in Las Vegas and had saved it for the purchase of new camera equipment. I was like a kid in a candy store. My new treasure arrived and I was out the door to use it.
I hated it. I was so disappointed. I just wanted to sit down and cry. Every picture I took was out of focus. I had read reviews about the auto focus and they were suppose to be good. I purchased a mono-pod to use with no luck. At that time the lens was put away and ignored. I wanted to pretend that I did not own one. I pulled it out after Christmas to photograph some of my ornaments with little success.
Last week at dinner, the Diva's and I were talking about Macro lens. My only comment was that I hated mine. All my photos are out of focus. I commented to Debra that she hand holds hers and her photos are great. Of course I was reminded that if I would use a Nikon my pictures would be great, also. I guess I am just to hard headed to change over to the dark side. I also have to many lens and accessories to switch. To debate the pros and cons of Nikon and Canon would take another post.
The other day after a light shower, I pulled out my lens again. I wanted to photograph some of the spring flowers in my yard. Once again I had no luck. I was ready to toss my lens. I remembered something that the lady had said at CPR. She advised turning off the auto focus. "But I will focus my camera to my eyes." Oh no, I was told. When you are in focus a little green dot will flash in you camera. Pesto, this worked great. The photos above were taken with my 100mm macro lens, hand held. I was much happier with the results of this shoot.
A few things that I have learned. First is slow down and take your time. I am not in a hurry to take my photos. Normally I would take the pictures and fix anything in Photoshop. But with this lens I need to take a little time. Second, with such a shallow depth of field I need to focus on what is the most important part of my photo. Third, hold my breath and push the shutter button. It is not really a lot to do to get great photos.
What do you have to think about when taking your photos? I am not always trying to photograph my 4-legged babies. This is a learning curve for me. I love instant perfection. I do not like to wait or not have something right the first time. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please do not send the merits of Nikon, I am a Canon user.
Have a great Day!

Does this look like a happy puppy? NO! Dixie is miserable without tennis balls in her life. For about three weeks, she has been limping on her front left leg. After the first trip to the Vet and numerous X-rays, Dr. Laurie said arthritis. Let her play and get plenty of exercise. That is what she needs. The exercise is good for her. One week of that and my sweetheart got worst. Dixie could not jump on the couch and did not want to play.
Second trip to the Vet to see Dr. Mullis. He is an orthopedic specialist. Yes, she does have a little arthritis but since she is worst?? I think she has tendinitis. No exercise for two to six weeks. This is a very painful condition one that I have never had, but. It was suggested that we put Dixie in a crate and keep her on a leash outside. My little princess is not in a crate or leash but we are not playing with tennis balls. I am trying to get all of them put away. Just when I think they are all hidden in the closet she comes up with another one.
This is going to be a long two weeks. We are only on day number two. It seems that the only thing I say to Dix is no. We have our fingers crossed that she will be better soon. And that ball restriction will only last for two weeks and not six.
Have a great week!

Are We Still In Kansas?

Late yesterday afternoon was an eventful weather day in Fayette County. At around 4:45 PM the severe weather warnings started playing on TV over and over again. The weather was beautiful outside. The girls and I had just come in from outside. I had worked in the yard and played with my babies. By the time Honey came home the beautiful day was a different story. The sky was a very strange color and the warnings were coming more often. All of the sudden I heard something hitting the windows in our house at about the same time Honey said OMG come look at the size of this hail. We could not believe it. It was like baseballs hitting the pool.
When the hail storm was over, I retrieved some of these beauties from our yard. It only lasted a few minutes but this is what we got. In my 51 years, I do not think I have ever seen hail this big or the shape that it was.
I then wanted to know what is Hail? Of course it is frozen precipitation but what? Research revealed the following:
"Hail is a frozen form of precipitation generally associated with severe thunderstorms, especially those which form in advance of cold fronts. Large hail is also seen as an early indicator of an approaching tornadic storm cell, and hailstones themselves can cause significant damage to exposed structures and vehicles. There are also documented cases where people have been seriously injured or even killed as a result of a heavy hailstorm."
The size of the hail was a true indicator of tornado's in the area. And yes I do believe that this size hail could have easily killed someone. True also was that a cold front hit a warm front causing the bad weather. The tornado sirens continued to go off for some time and we had a lot of rain. Thankfully everyone I know and love was safe and sound.
What was your weather like yesterday?
Have a good one!

Diva Dinner

There is nothing better than Divas at dinner. We enjoy our drink of choice, talk, laugh and sometimes celebrate a Birthday. Of course it does not take much for us to celebrate. When the Divas are together it is a Celebration! I am so blessed to have such a great group of friends. The best reward of scrap booking is my Divas.

The little princess, that Mimi is hogging, is the littlest Diva. We have decided that not only do we meet the first Sunday of the month, but two weeks after for dinner. Little Priss changes so much in two weeks. She is now a little butterball. You should see how fast Pam, Judy and I jump when she makes a peep. Little one you will be the Queens some day. Maybe the magic wand will be fixed by then. If not you have the Divas to grant your every wish.

Have a great day girls!

All Good Things Must End!

All good thing must come to an end. My honey comes home today. He has been in Miami for the past four days. I have enjoyed 4 days of doing what ever I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. Are my PJs still on at noon or maybe more like 2:00? I have enjoyed myself. Now don't get me wrong. I have missed him dearly. I love this funny photo of my honey. There are two way to look at this. Is he my hunk of burning love or is he the devil in my life? Both can be a lot of fun. Have a safe flight home my darling. See you tonight. Love or Devil?

Dreaming of Hawaii

You guessed it. These are my traveling buddies. And yes we did rent a car to go to a scrap book store in Hawaii. Our ship was in port for two days. The second day was to shop and return to the boat for rest, relaxation and girl time together. I did hand over my camera to a stranger and ask him to take our picture. We were in heaven on earth.
Two years ago today, the four of us were on a scrapbook cruise with Lisa Bearson. Eight days in the wonderful Hawaiian Island. We were in a different port every day. Our days were filled with fun and adventure. At night, we were busy scrapping. Now you tell me, what a better way to travel. This photo was taken from a helicopter. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this trip.

I was on this cruise on Valentines Day 2007. My darling son was in school at Western Carolina in North Carolina. I had heard that they were getting snow and possibly snow in the Atlanta area. The morning of Valentine Day I called my son with the following message. "Good Morning Son. I am having coffee on the back of the ship, sitting in the sun and the weather is 80 degrees. Love you. Mom" On my return I received a call from him telling me he did not like my message. Poor baby was walking back and forth to class in 24 degree weather with snow. My perkie little message did not send him love. Poor Baby!!! Can you tell how upset I was??? Ha! Ha! Ha!

All dressed up and out on the town, with the rest of the cruise ship. This was Debra and Jamie's first luau. We had a great time and enjoyed the entertainment. None of us wanted to come home.
Maybe one day my honey and I can sell everything and move to Hawaii. Not to worry buddies! You guys would have an open invitation. Thanks for such a wonderful trip. It is always in my heart. Happy Valentines Day. Priss

It's A Party

It was one of those March (oops February) days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: When it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. Charles Dickens
What a glorious day it was in Georgia, blue skies, fluffy white clouds. God's hand is truly at work. Don't you just love how the daffodils bow their heads to the sun? I am now on the look out for robins digging in my yard. They are suppose to be the true first sign of spring. Have you seen one, let me know?
General Lee promised an early spring. I think the ground hog has it right. Remember my dear friends that we always get our worst weather in March. With fingers crossed, we will hope the General is correct. Happy Spring!

Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" ~Robin Williams

Traveling Today

cleaning lady Pictures, Images and Photos

Hi-Hoe! Hi-Hoe! It's off to home I go. Boo Whooo! Washing sheets, cleaning the house, my vacation with my Mother is over. I do have to go home to my honey. I am so excited about our home renovation in Florida. Everything is starting to come together. I am going to do a slide show of the progress. I have wanted to wait until it was completely finished. So far this has been an Eighteen month project and is expected to go into the summer. With the economy the way it is it may take longer for furniture. Who knows? Maybe our new, change president will fix everything and the economy will improve for the better soon. I do pray for that. Any way I need to continue to pack and get ready for my drive home. See ya!

Winter Sun Rise

This photo was taken in January, in Key West, Fla. It does not snow here and it really does not get cold. But the winter sun rise and sun sets are the best. There is something about the shorter amount of day light that makes them so special. I am a collector of sunsets from all of our travel. This one happens to be a sun rise and is probably one of the best photos I have ever takes. Hope you enjoy it. Please let me know if you would like the actual photo.

For Skinny Butt

Cupcake Dance Pictures, Images and Photos

This little blog today if for a sweet little friend of mine, nick named Skinny Butt. She is little, sweet, cute, fun, loving and truly a wonderful person. She is multi talented, a craftier extraordinaire.

Skinny Butt and the rest of my Blog Family,

I have discovered a great blog site. Bakerella is a very talented cake decorator. Thought you would enjoy visiting her site. Below is the link to her cupcake and camera link. From there you can enjoy the jewels of her craft. Her recipes are evil, evil, evil. They are not weight watchers friendly but look sinful good. I love her take on the Brownies, "Just go ahead and eat them. You are not going to keep you New Years resolution anyway." She could have started that line with Miss Priss.........

http://bakerella.blogspot.com/2008/09/cupcakes-and-cameras.html

To the blog friend who referred me to her site, Thank You. Bakerella, thank you for the yummy treats. Keep up the amazing work.

Forgotten Coast

I am truly at home in paradise. We are spending the week-end on the forgotten coast in the pan handle of Florida. We love being forgotten. We do not have chain restaurants, souvenirs shops, putt putt golf or water parks. But we love it.

What we do have is heaven. We enjoy the beauty of a natural beach. We are often greeted by dolphins. The experience of watch a dolphin give birth is amazing or seeing a mother dolphin stun mullet with tail for her twin babies to eat. Our house is surrounded by protected marsh lands for bird. We enjoy all kinds of sea birds. Have I mention how much I love it here.
I consider myself a collector of sunsets. I try to take pictures of sunset every where we go. I have done this for some time now and truly enjoy it. You can see God's hand in the painting of a sun set. No two are a like and they are all so special. Hope you enjoy this amazing sun set with me on the forgotten coast.

Audubon House Museum

The Audubon House Museum and Gardens was established in 1960 in Key West, Fl. Although John James Audubon never stayed in the house, he was a fequent visitor and very much admired by the orginal owner Captain John Hurling Geiger. As I toured this mid 1800's American Classical Revival home and listen to the stories of Audubons visits there. I was drawn to what was going on in the gardens.

A slight, elderly man was bringing in the most beautiful gems of the garden. This shy man was sharing his prized orchids with visitors of this museum. I could not wait to try my hand at photographing them. Doris and I had attended a 6:30 AM class of 10-tips for better vacation photos. I would have loved to have had a photo of the man who grew these beauties but he shyed away. He did tell me that he has over 1,000 different orchids in his collection. Can you image? Some of them had the most amazing smell. I would have loved to have had just one formy home. Enjoy a stroll through some of the most beautiful Gems of this Garden.

Our Childhood In Black and White

mayberry Pictures, Images and Photos

Our Childhood
Enjoy the Memories

Whomever wrote this, described childhood to a T. Hope you enjoy it.

(Under age 40? You won't understand.)
You could hardly see for all the snow, Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go. Pull a chair up to the TV set,'Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet.'

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes, too.

Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice-pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli .

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then..

Batman and Robin Pictures, Images and Photos

The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE .. and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now. Flunking gym was not an option .. even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.

Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.

The Beverly Hillbillies Pictures, Images and Photos

We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then.

Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself..

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations

Oh yeah ... and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked.
Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

Leave It to Beaver Pictures, Images and Photos

We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either because if we did, we got our butt spanked there and then we got butt spanked again when we got home.
I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck..

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family.. How could we possibly have known that?

Green Acres Pictures, Images and Photos

We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes? We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive?

LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA, AND TO ALL WHO DIDN'T. SORRY FOR WHAT YOU MISSED. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING.
